How much can I save?
You can save up to 89% of your policy premium if you have the maximum possible rating on your home. Depending on the valid mitigation construction features on your home, the actual discounts you receive could therefore range anywhere from 0% to 89%.

This seems too good to be true. How is this possible?
As a Florida homeowner, you are entitled to certain premium reductions that have been mandated by state law if they are shown to be valid. DMI is here to educate homeowners about these reductions and how they can benefit. Every day, many of our customers knock hundreds, and sometimes thousands, off their annual premiums by demonstrating to their insurance company that they have warranted mitigation discounts.
Why should I use Don Meyler Inspections?
DMI is the biggest and most trusted insurance inspection company in Florida, in business since 1999. Don’t be fooled by imitators that offer a bargain-basement inspection, only to generate problems for the policyholder and the insurance agent when the underwriter reviews the inspection. And if a less-experienced inspector neglects to spot just one beneficial construction feature of your home, it could cost you hundreds of dollars per year!
With a professional engineer and licensed general, building, and residential contractors on staff, our experience and technical knowledge is second to none. Our technical experts were instrumental in the developing the Florida universal wind mitigation inspection form (Form OIR-B1-1802) for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation. We are also proud to have been selected by the State of Florida’s Department of Financial Services as an authorized Wind Certification Entity for the My Safe Florida Home program, and we have been hired directly by fifteen insurance companies operating in Florida.
What exactly are the construction features that can qualify for discounts?
- A proven 2001 FBC (or 1994 SFBC) roof covering on all roof systems.
- Opening Protective Devices, such as shutters or impact-tested windows, on all openings.
- Roof straps or other strong roof-to-wall connections to tie the roof system down to the walls.
- A valid secondary water resistant barrier in the attic or on the roof to help prevent water intrusion.
- Strong roof deck attachments to strongly fasten the roof deck to the trusses or rafters.
- A roof for which nearly all of the perimeter is “hip-shaped”.

What is my first step to start saving?
Contact Don Meyler Inspections by requesting an inspection online, Live Chatting with us on this site, or by calling the office at (800) 469-0434. One of our representatives will get you started. When you call, have your current windstorm policy information handy, including your insurance company, their phone number, your insurance agent and policy number.
Do you still offer a 100% Money-Back Guarantee?
DMI regrets it is no longer able to offer a money-back guarantee, although this is not as unfortunate as it sounds. As a practical matter, more than 98% of windstorm inspection reports for policyholders who have never had one done before will lower their windstorm insurance by more than the cost of the inspection over the following 12 months.
In addition to several actuarial reasons, this is because the initial mitigation credit status on most insurance policies for homes built before the latest building code changes defaults to “unknown” prior to an inspection. Simply by substantiating the precise mitigation features of the home through an inspection, there is usually some benefit to the policyholder that compensates the homeowner for having purchased the inspection.
Nevertheless, some insurance carriers have pointed out that any inspection process in which the fee is in any way contingent on the results of the inspection could be seen as an incentive to distort inspection results, ostensibly to allow the inspection company to avoid having to issue any refunds. As a result, this policy has been discontinued and replaced with DMI’s Satisfaction Guarantee (see below).
What is DMI’s Satisfaction Guarantee?
DMI guarantees that each windstorm inspection we perform on our MitPro inspection system will be: 1) scheduled by a friendly customer service professional and never an inspector, 2) both physically performed and personally signed by a trained, actively-licensed and insured Florida inspector, 3) individually reviewed by a member of our quality control team led by our in-house Professional Engineer, and 4) followed by excellent post-inspection customer service for any questions or concerns the policyholder, insurance agent, or underwriting department may have.
If we have failed to provide any of these items on your inspection, please contact us at (800) 469-0434 Option 6, by email at research@dmifla.com, or by Live Chat in the corner of this website, and we will do our level best to make things right.
What is your policy on returned checks?
Please note that there is a $25 fee for returned checks.
Which insurance companies give discounts?
All of them! Florida has required that all admitted insurance companies give discounts for important wind mitigation features such as shutters, roof straps, and roof shape.
Are there penalties for knowingly obtaining an inappropriate mitigation discount? What about for the agents or inspectors?
Yes. In 2009 HB1495 (lines 2143-2148) passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor states: “An individual or entity who knowingly provides or utters a false or fraudulent mitigation verification form with the intent to obtain or receive a discount on an insurance premium to which the individual or entity is not entitled commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.” Note that a misdemeanor of the first degree carries a potential punishment of $1,000.00 fine and up to one year in jail per charge.
In addition, the 2010 legislative session introduced strict new penalties for inspectors who sign inspection forms that they know to be wrong, or that demonstrate a pattern of unwarranted mitigation credits, which passed and was signed by the governor in HB663. These strict new penalties for those who sign the form went into effect on July 1, 2010.
In one notable case, an agent in Wellington was sent to prison for having falsified windstorm mitigation inspection forms without any inspection being conducted.
Are you affiliated with Don Meyler Roofing?
No. This roofing company is affiliated with the family of the former owner of Don Meyler Inspections (DMI), who sold DMI to its present owners in 2003. Don Meyler Roofing was and is a completely separate firm specializing in roofing, with no common ownership or business relationship. Don Meyler Inspections (DMI) does not perform roofing or any other construction work. We apologize for any confusion in the marketplace that these similar names have caused.
Are you affiliated with Don Meyler Industries?
Again, no. This company is affiliated with the same former owner of Don Meyler Inspections (DMI), who sold DMI to its present owners in 2003. Don Meyler Industries was created by this individual, per public records, on June 18, 2009. As of June 12, 2012, according to Sunbiz.org, Don Meyler Industries, Inc. was voluntarily dissolved by its owner. As we state above, Don Meyler Inspections (DMI) does not perform roofing or any other construction work, and we apologize for any confusion in the marketplace that this has caused for our valued policyholder customers, agents, and carrier clients.
My agent referred me to you. Does the agent receive any benefit for doing that?
No. In July of 2014 SB 1672 went into effect, making it a crime for inspectors to give (or agents to receive) referral fees for inspection activity. Any inspector offering (or agent accepting) a referral fee in return for inspection referrals risks the suspension or termination of their professional license, fines and potentially prosecution.
Agent referrals to DMI therefore are driven by the agent’s knowledge that inspections performed by DMI are accurate, trusted by carriers, and provided with excellent customer service for more than a decade.
Can you perform construction work or refer me to a company that can do the needed work?
Don Meyler Inspections (DMI) deeply values our reputation for honest services. There are many insurance inspectors in Florida who will tell you that your hurricane shutter is deficient and then turn around and offer to sell you a new one. We believe that at best, this provides the appearance of a conflict of interest. At worst, it carries the potential for abuse. As a result, DMI does not perform roofing, shutter or any other construction work, nor do we make referrals or endorsements to those who can. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and direct our customers to Angie’s List, Yelp, Google+, or other sources of vendor reviews and information.
DMI is always willing to work closely with whomever is performing remediation work to ensure that when the work is completed, DMI’s reinspection will have the desired impact on the policyholder’s insurance. We strongly recommend discussing with DMI your plan to make any changes to your mitigation features prior to hiring a contractor. We are here to help.
I’m still confused as to which company I’m dealing with. Is there a way to be 100% sure?
Yes! Our tens of thousands of satisfied customers, more than 5,000 registered agency users of DMIAccess, and 15 underwriter clients all note the distinctive, trademarked red hurricane logo with grey “DMI” lettering that confirms they are dealing with the industry leader. Our logo is on this website, on our inspection reports, our marketing materials, and in the signature block of every email sent from DMI. DMI takes inappropriate marketing activities seriously. If you believe you have been misled as to which company you are dealing with, please call us at (800) 469-0434, extension 6, and let us know what transpired.
